Mathilde Szuba holds a doctorate in environmental sociology from the Centre for the Study of Techniques, Knowledge and Practices (CETCOPRA, University of Paris I).

She works on the political and social implications of peak oil and the crossing of environmental irreversibility thresholds, particularly through the study of individual carbon quotas ("carbon cards"). She co-authored a chapter in the French edition of Rob Hopkins’ *Transition Handbook* (2010). She is a member of the editorial boards of *Entropia* and *DDT*, and is part of the Institut Momentum.
