Florian Couveinhes Matsumoto
Florian Couveinhes Matsumoto is a Senior Lecturer (Maître de conférences) in Public Law at the Department of Social Sciences of the École normale supérieure (Ulm). A member of the Centre for Legal Theory and Analysis (University of Paris Nanterre-ENS-CNRS) and an associate member of the Institute of Advanced International Studies (Université Panthéon-Assas), he has published numerous articles and several books: L’effectivité en droit international (Bruylant, 2014) and, as co-editor, Les motifs non-juridiques des jugements internationaux (Pedone, 2016), Les États face aux juridictions internationales: les politiques des États à l’égard des juges internationaux (Pedone, 2019), La dénonciation des traités: techniques et politiques (Pedone, 2022) and Un droit international français? Pratiques françaises relatives au droit international (Pedone, 2022). He is preparing a textbook on International Economic Law to be published by PUF in the Droit fondamental series in October 2023. His main research themes are: the invention of the discipline of "International Economic Law" in the 1980s–1990s and how it needs to be rethought to address current social, climatic and geopolitical challenges; the democratisation of national procedures relating to international treaties; the relationship between democracy and conceptions of law; and Chinese conceptions and uses of international law.
